Designer of the Week: Jason Wu

He's young. He's hip. And his Spring 2010 Collection is so dynamic that there is something for everyone. Jason Wu highlights the female body by using classic pieces with simply lines. He adds belts to show off the waistline, and his use of colors is anything but random. Long story short, all of us at dcstylestop.com believe that Jason Wu has proven that simple truly goes a long way.

I want clothes, and I want them now! Yet I am spending all of my time looking at Style.com's Spring 2010 RTW Fashion Show...the designs range from incredible to incredibly disappointing. Keeping up with the latest high-end fashion can be somewhat addicting and I'm okay with that...but this obsession is only healthy if you follow a couple of important rules.

First, unless you are raking in the dough (which, I am definitely not), then these looks are really only intended to inspire more affordable looks.

Second, even if you are flipping through the "ready-to-wear" looks, most aren't designed with the average body in mind. I'm over the whole "models are too skinny" argument--let's face it, thin, tall women look great in designer outfits--but the reality is that people with different body types are not always going to look great in the same wardrobe.

Nonetheless, Spring 2010 RTW is glorious and I want to highlight a few key designers that I believe will be inspiring people like myself throughout the spring in our beautiful capitol.

Dolce & Gabbana have successfully reminded me of my teenage years in Kansas. With denim jeans, snap front shirts, and fantastic brown belts, these two have got it figured out (no surprise...after all, they are D&G). Although I am never a fan of denim-on-denim looks, I do love their combination of cream colored tops and torn jeans.

These looks are exactly what I hope to see on the streets of DC this spring. Check out the entire collection here.

Among other designer, Gucci has opened the spring fashion scene with white and black...not together for the most part...but this year I am trying to avoid sticking with my usual basics (you can never go wrong with a black dress or white pants and a black top). The white shoes with great details are what earned this mention. Well, that...and the fact that Gucci designs are always fun and crazy, but also help normal people like me take their ideas and piece together great wardrobes.

From dressy to casual, Sophie Theallet is a personal favorite...and interestingly enough, a favorite of First Lady Michelle Obama as well. Ms. Theallet was born in France and now lives in the U.S. Her looks are rather bohemian, especially when considering her color selections. She uses a lot of neutrals, browns, oranges, and reds--but she also mixes things up with a few bright pastels. The reason I love her looks so much is that they are cut to highlight the neck, shoulders, and legs while staying flattering to all those beautiful women out there with great curves. I won't say I love every one of her pieces, but for the most part I think she has a great thing going this spring.

So what can we take from these fantastic designers? As a Kansas girl, I love keeping things simple and spicing them up with great accessories--all of these designers have done just that. Jeans and white tank tops are my comfort outfit, so I think I will follow the theme created by D&G.

Who is your favorite designer? I'm always trying to find fun and interesting lesser-known designers (despite most of these designers being main stream).

Let me know what you think. :)
